from april to may.

many apologies for the lack of posting as of late, my friends!

we had a great gathering back in april. our topic of dialogue was simply, Jesus. or unsimply, rather. we had a small, but very engaging crowd…an absolute delight to my heart.

next month our gathering falls on perhaps one of my favorite holidays of the year, cinco de mayo! so, we’ll be pushing back a week and gather on the 12th.

hope to see you there, we’ll save you a seat and a pint!

thanks for reading!

navigating political involvment

last night’s discussion, per the usual, covered many thoughts and feelings in charting our course into the political realm, where we get our maps to do so, and testing the accuracy of our compass.

we had about 15 there, to board the ship and sail away on a journey that i think, both challenged and encouraged pushing the Kingdom forward.

a special thank you is in order, to jacob and daniel, for facilitating our evening’s dialogue, and we look forward to seeing you in april!

cheers.

march!

greetings friends!

march is just around the corner, and as our first spring-time gathering of 2009 draws near, it is high time to inform you of our upcoming discussion.

we’ll pick up the dialogue, on the topic of navigating political involvment as a Christian.

i’m excited that we have a guest question-writer this month, so you’ll be hearing from someone other than me. here are a few questions that you might see:

How do the scriptures encourage us to live? How are Gods values to be displayed through his people?

How does our voting reflect that? And should it?

How does a Christian politician have his values reflected in governing?

If we (the church) are to push back darkness, are we to use Caesar to do so?

How are sovereign nations different than individuals and the church?

also, i’ve possibly got a guest coming for you in march. his name is chris, and he’s on a mission to talk about caring for God’s creation and how we can help by recycling and taking care of our environment.

stay tuned, friends. looking forward to toasting with you in march!

the ten commandments and february updations.

what a great conversation we all had this past january about the ten commandments. our tables at dog and duck were overflowing not only with people, but with passion and wisdom. thank you for all who joined us on the front porch and braving the chilly night-air!

in february, we’re going to be changing up just a bit. still meeting at dog and duck, 7pm, on tuesday the 3rd. i hope to see you there!

january! a new year, a new beginning. a new creation?

it’s that time again. time to gather, put on our thinking caps and reading glasses…order a brew, and examine our heartbeats along side the hearts of our community.

we have just celebrated the birthday of Jesus Christ. but why do we need Him? why is He special? why is His birth important?

there’s a little passage in exodus i (we, God) like to call the ten commandments. do you truly realize your need for a saving? (perhaps from a saVIOUR?) we try so hard to keep the law, but our imperfections will never allow us to be successful.

enter Jesus.

He came, first and foremost, to give us LIFE, but He also came to give us freedom, restoration and REST, from our not-so-perfect ways. have you allowed Him to make you new? perhaps we will make our own ‘exodus’, leaving our old self behind, entering into a new creation with Jesus as our co-pilot. our maestro. our coach. our teacher.

come dialogue with us january 6th. we’ll be waiting for you on the front porch, 7pm, dog and duck.

After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! 11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

deciembre.

i have been a december posting slacker. forgive me. but i am so excited to report three new faces joined our group of four this month. no, it’s not about numberes, but these folks found us through their own special ways. i want to tell you about one friend in particular.

his name is daniel.

daniel found us through our facebook group, via another friend, with a heart that wasn’t ready to jump into a church somehwere, but was craving a God-centerd spiritual connection. i have to say, daniel is a brave man, walking into a group of mostly womean, that he doesn’t know. he has, since then, become a part of our community full-on, and we are thankful and grateful for his friendship.

it’s truly amazing how God works. how He crosses paths. daniel’s story reminds me of the truth in what happened to the prodigal son. no…daniel wasn’t squandering wealth nor was stuck feeding pigs…that’s not what i mean. i delight in the truth, friends, that you only have to turn and face Home, and God will do the rest. He will give you what you need when you don’t think to ask for it. ALL is possible!

we all felt and continue to feel God’s love through daniel.

we hope you will share in our community, this january 6th.
